The Gaia Way
is located about 20 miles south of the city of
Salvador in the state of Bahia, about mid way
between the Amazon River and the city of Rio de
Janeiro on the east coast of Brazil.
If you live in the U.S.,
there are 2 ways to get to here - (1) directly
from Miami to Salvador or (2) from Rio or from Sao
Paolo. Almost all major U.S. cities (LA, SF, NY,
Chic ago) have direct connections to either Rio or
Sao Paolo. The flight from Rio/Sao Paolo is about
2 hours.
If you decide to come via
Rio or Sao Paolo you should consider taking a
break and enjoying a visit to one or both of those
cities. We prefer Rio ourselves.
Also consider arriving so
that your trip can include Brazil's Carnival which
is among the most spectacular events in the world.
You can arrange a flight
yourself or we can arrange it for you. Generally
speaking round trip flights from the U.S. cost
under $1000 for most of the year, and increase to
slightly more than $1000 during the peak Dec
through Feb months.
Once you arrive in Salvador
we will pick you up at the airport and get you to
the Gaia Way.

Consider your
time at The Gaia Way no different from any other
vacation in the tropics and pack your bags
accordingly. That means suntan lotion, sunglasses,
a good hat, a camera, and loose fitting clothing.
Depending upon the time of the year, you may also
wish to bring rain gear.
Salvador is a large city and
you can purchase almost anything there, so don't
worry if you forget to bring something. Moreover,
you'll find that prices are a LOT cheaper in
Salvador than in your home town.
You don't need to bring a
lot of money because Salvador and Brazil in
general and full of ATMs which accept foreign
credit cards.
Because you'll be staying on
a farm and working in the jungle, there are some
additional items you'll want to bring. These
include hiking boots, long pants, and working
gloves. The Gaia Way provides "survival
kits" which include such necessary items as
emergency light sticks, a first aid kit, a
compass, etc.
The most important things
you can bring are yourself, a good attitude, and a
willingness to work. |
In addition to spending time
in Rio or Sao Paolo before/after joining us, there
are many sites around Salvador which are worth
visiting, either on your time off or during an
extended stay...
Salvador has the best Carnival
of any Brazilian city, including Rio. So if you're
here around Carnival time, you should plan on
attending. Spend at least 3 or 4 days - a week if
you can. You'll learn the Samba and have a great
time.
Salvador is the home to
the
African witchcraft/healing which was brought
over hundreds of years ago with slaves. It was
combined with the indigenous spirit beliefs and
what resulted is truly worth seeing.
Forget Ipanema or the Copa
Cabana. Salvador has the best beaches in
Brazil (maybe the world) and it's got the women to
match. Interested in churches.
Salvador has more churches per person than any
other city in the world. In fact it has 1 church
for every day of the year. Some are 300+ years
old. |
